Informal Feedback

As part of my teaching philosophy, I believe that the best form of reflection is in the form of informal feedback from students. Some examples of the informal feedback I have received over the last couple of years are listed here.

In February 2015, the Van der Sterr Building, which hosted the School of Accountancy, burnt down caused by an electrical fault. The support I received from my students was astounding:

“Sir, we are thinking of you during this time. You were the last people that this had to happen to and do not deserve it. Thank you for all sir’s amazing hard work and effort. The third years’ miss you sir. Good luck!” – 2015

Example E-mails received from students over the last couple of years:

“Thank you so much for 2 amazing years, from process costing last year until this year. You were really my best lecturer in the entire 3 years at Stellenbosch.” Student 1 (Disclaimer: original email was translated from Afrikaans)

“I would really like to thank you for this year’s lectures. I heard this week that I have been accepted into BAcc honours and is so thankful. I know for sure that I could not have done this without excellent lecturers. Sir was truly one of the best lecturers of my 3 years of studies. Thank you for your enthusiasm, logical explanations, preparation and passion for your work. I hope that I will also one day love what I am doing. I hear so many times of students struggling without good lecturers. May God use you for years to come to train young people to create a future for our country. I will forever be thankful sir. – Student 2 (Disclaimer: original email was translated from Afrikaans)

Just a note to say thank you for your endless hours of sitting with me trying to explain those concepts I never quite understood. I am so ecstatic to say that I received a 63% in the Man Acc final exam and I can’t thank you enough for your patience and guidance. I am looking so forward to what HONS will bring next year (besides the stress and tears, haha).
I hope to see you at graduation.” – Student 3
